This little owl has been getting some interest, so here's a bit of background:
His name is Mortimer and he was rescued by a kind person who spotted him in a ditch, taking the time to stop and help. He had been hit by a car and it was below freezing out. That was 16 years ago, and the impact left him blind in his left eye, making it impossible for him to return to the wild. Since then, this little Saw-Whet Owl has been cared for by the Delaware Valley Raptor Center, and has been seen by over 250,000 people through their presentations.
Bill Streeter, of DVRC, graciously allowed me to take photos during his presentation at the Grahamsville Fair, NY a few years ago. And like most of the audience, I fell in love with Mortimer, and that's how he ended up in my studio.
